ISO 26262

ISO 26262: Road Vehicles Functional Safety is an international standard specifically formulated for eight-seater passenger vehicles with a total weight not exceeding 3.5 tons, based on the characteristics of safety-related electronic and electrical systems. It is developed according to IEC 61508: Safety-related Electrical/Electronic/Programmable Electronic Systems Functional Safety and was officially released on November 15, 2011.

ISO 26262 is the first functional safety standard applicable to mass-produced products in history. It is particularly important to note that ISO 26262 only applies to safety-related electronic and electrical systems, including motors, electronics and software components, and is not applicable to non-electronic and electrical systems (such as mechanical, hydraulic, etc.).

The design issues of functional safety have been emphasized in the automotive field because they are related to issues such as personnel safety and company reputation. Through hazard analysis and risk assessment (HARA) and the V-model design architecture, consistent analysis results of functional safety requirements can be obtained, facilitating the consistency of failure prevention technologies and management requirements in the life cycle of automotive electronic systems. The design development, verification and validation (CMMI-DEV) capability maturity model integration processes are used to achieve this, ensuring that the functional safety of the product meets the required automotive safety integrity level (ASIL).
